Alex Sawyer is a writer based on Kaurna Yarta in the Adelaide Hills.

Alex Sawyer is a professional psychologist, volunteer firefighter, amateur father and occasionally published author. He was born and raised in Adelaide and lives in the foothills with his partner, son and a solitary koala that bellows at night to remind them who really owns the backyard.

Alex has a PhD in clinical psychology and won postgraduate awards for his writing on youth trauma and resilience. Since taking up fiction, he has been shortlisted for residency awards from Writers SA, published in Meanjin, runner up in the Peter Carey Short Story Award in 2022, and winner of the Richell Prize for Emerging Writers in 2023.

Alex’s debut novel, Rat Daniels, will be published by Hachette in July 2026.
